No More Clumpy Salt/SUgar

For this project I designed a set of dispensers to solve the problem of salt and sugar clumping in the container. The exploration began with a trip to Hope and Main, where I met the owner of Newport Sea Salt Company, Matt. After a brief discussion he said since his salt is made from pure sea water from Brenton Reef, he doesn't put in any additives during the process. That includes anti-clumping agents, the lack of which can sometimes cause clumping. This inspired me to design dispensers that can solve the problem of sugar and salt usually clumping when left in a container.

How it works

The mechanism for separating salt clumps inside the container is inspired by flour sifters. It consists of a rotating screen connected to a crank.

testing

Various shapes of the screen are tested for the best outcome for separating salt clumps.
